Ridley Aqua-Feed manufacture finfish diets using an extruder and a pellet press for making prawn feed. Modern aquaculture feed manufacture is based on extrusion technology, for the following reasons:
- To improve binding and physical characteristics in high protein (low starch) feeds
- Increases ability to absorb oils due to internal structure
- To increase starch gelatinisation which is important for physical structure and nutrition
- High heat and pressure and a short-time process gives improved digestibility, minimises nutrient degradation while producing a pasteurised product.
- Improved water stability characteristics and hence improved water quality conditions
- Achieve improved feed conversions
As prawn feed does not need the high oil content it is possible to manufacture excellent performing feed using a steam press process.
